The 7 Layers of Our Shield

In 2002, Dr. Klioze started her clinic at the Daytona Beach Veterans Administration and walked straight into a crisis. Her patients were complex, critical, and struggling — more than 80% were overweight, many diabetic or on the edge of it. Underneath it all sat the same tangle of causes: poor nutrition, too little sleep and exercise, chronic stress, and no real support system. Patient after patient described the same feeling — watching one chronic disease pile onto another and losing control of their own health in the process.

Dr. Klioze started by focusing on better food choices, and real attention to how those choices played out in blood sugar and energy levels. She also guided patients toward smaller portions and less frequent meals. The results were striking — lab values improved, weight came off, and Dr. Klioze was able to cut back or even eliminate medications and insulin altogether.

When she brought her results to a subcommittee of endocrinologists and nutritionists at the National American Diabetes Association, the response was skeptical: surely these patients would end up back on insulin eventually. And for some — the ones who drifted from the plan and lost touch with her support groups — that prediction held true. But for the patients who stayed the course? The opposite happened. Not only did they stay off insulin, but many shed a whole list of other medications too!

Exercise

We all know we need to exercise — the hard part is actually doing it. Physical activity isn't a modern invention or a lifestyle trend; it has been woven into human survival throughout our entire history.

As our world grows more sedentary and automated, the importance of moving with purpose and direction becomes harder to ignore. Exercise does more than preserve strength and mobility — it shapes our microbiome, which in turn supports our immune system. Just as significant, it influences cognitive performance and longevity. Inactivity moves in the opposite direction, quietly eroding us physically, mentally, and emotionally.

So how do we motivate ourselves to change when the status quo feels so comfortable? At SHIELD OF LIFE, we start by helping you understand why exercise matters — for your health, your body, and your future — and then we help you act on it, whether that means building a routine from scratch or getting more out of what you're already doing. Starting slowly is fine. What matters most is taking that first step toward a better YOU.

Sleep is one of the most overlooked causes of disease. It wasn't until 2017, when Jeffrey C. Hall, Michael Rosbash, and Michael W. Young received the Nobel Prize in Physiology for their discoveries on circadian rhythm, that the medical profession began studying in earnest how disrupted sleep patterns affect our health. That research has revealed something striking: irregular sleep cycles can raise the risk of diabetes, obesity, aggressive behavior, depression, cognitive decline, vascular disease, and cancer.

Our SHIELD OF LIFE HEAL program is built to change that. We'll give you the tools to understand and improve your sleep, because we see it as a vital key to longevity and a healthy, happy life.

Nasal Breathing

Most of us never think twice about how we breathe — until we learn how much it matters. The nose isn't just a passageway for air; it filters, warms, and humidifies it before it ever reaches the lungs, something the mouth simply can't do.

Nasal breathing also triggers the release of nitric oxide, a molecule that widens blood vessels and improves oxygen absorption — supporting better focus, cardiovascular health, and physical performance. Mouth breathing bypasses this system entirely, and has been linked to poorer sleep quality, snoring, sleep apnea, and even changes in facial and dental development over time.

Beyond the physical benefits, nasal breathing encourages slower, deeper breaths that calm the nervous system, lowering stress and supporting a state of calm alertness.

Through our SHIELD OF LIFE HEAL program, we'll help you recognize how you're breathing now and how a few simple adjustments — including nasal breathing during rest, sleep, and exercise — can improve your energy, focus, and long-term health. Sometimes the most powerful changes start with the breath you've been taking for granted.

Every cell in the body carries its own electrical charge, communicating and functioning through subtle electromagnetic signals. Over time — through stress, injury, illness, or simply the wear of daily life — that charge can weaken, leaving cells less able to repair and regenerate themselves. Pulsed Electromagnetic Activation (PEMA) works by delivering gentle, rhythmic electromagnetic pulses that help restore this natural cellular charge, supporting cell activation at a foundational level.

Research suggests PEMA can improve circulation, reduce inflammation, and accelerate the body's own healing processes. By activating cells at their core, it supports tissue repair, eases pain and may improve energy and mental clarity. Because the therapy is non-invasive and painless, it offers a gentle way to support the body's natural recovery — without medication or downtime.

PEMA is a valuable complement to the other layers of our SHIELD — nutrition, exercise, sleep, nasal breathing, spirituality, and community — helping the body do what it's already designed to do: heal itself.

Through our SHIELD OF LIFE HEAL program, we introduce PEMA as one more layer of protection to help you feel more energized, less stressed and recover more fully by supporting your body at the cellular level. It's a small, simple step that can make a meaningful difference in how you feel.

Spirituality

Spirituality is a personal belief paired with an awareness of being part of something greater than oneself — whether that greater force is understood through religion or through empirical wonder at the natural world. It carries with it a humble recognition that we were created by something larger than ourselves, and that this recognition calls us to respect all living things around us.

From here, a deeper question emerges: what is our purpose, and how do we live it out? Research consistently shows that people with a strong spiritual foundation — a belief that nature or God is the creator of the universe — tend to be happier, manage illness more resiliently, and experience healthier outcomes overall. Studies have also found that patients engaged in spiritual or religious practices show higher levels of dopamine, the neurochemical tied to happiness, motivation, and positive behavior.

As you join our SHIELD OF LIFE HEAL program, we hope to inspire you to discover — or deepen — your own spiritual relationship, while gaining a clearer sense of your importance and purpose in life.

We've all been there: after a week of disciplined exercise and clean eating, the weekend arrives and we indulge. We promise ourselves we'll get back on track Monday — but then Monday comes, and another brick goes up on the “excuse wall,” until eventually it's too high to tear down.

There are real reasons this happens. A drop in dopamine is one. Another is simply not being fully ready to change and settling into comfort with where we already are. Some of us have felt it firsthand — watching our own efforts get quietly undermined, only to be pulled back on track by family, friends, or coworkers who cared enough to step in. That's exactly why a supportive community of like-minded people matters: people who encourage, help, and hold us accountable with genuine care.

Research suggests new habits take root after about 21 days — but only for those who stay consistent and genuinely want the change. That's the foundation of the SHIELD OF LIFE HEAL platform: helping participants build and sustain healthy habits grounded in the science upon which Dr. Klioze developed her program. She helps you see — and feel — the real impact of healthy choices, then supports you in making that new way of life stick. She's witnessed remarkable transformations in her patients and clients using this model, and now you can experience it too. SHIELD OF LIFE doesn't sell weight-loss pills or gimmicks. All we ask is a genuine desire to learn, enthusiasm to change, and a commitment to stay the course — sharing both successes and setbacks we work toward our health goal together.
